CULTURE
AND ITS TRADITION:
Kerala has a rich cultural
heritage. Its diverse culture is influenced by three main religions of
Hinduism, Christianity and Islam. Exquisite sculptures, music and dance forms
can be seen in the historic development of Kerala's cultural traditions. The
traditions of Kathakali and Mohiniattam are highly developed art forms that
have developed from their folk origins into highly evolved classical dance
forms. Kathakali is a 300-year-old dance form developed exclusively in Kerala
combiningthe performing art forms of opera, ballet, masque, and pantomime. The
dance is a beautiful blending of color, dance, music, drama, and expressions.
CLIMATIC ATMOSPHERE:
Kochi's
proximity to the equator along with its coastal location results in little
seasonal temperature variation, with moderate to high levels of humidity.
Annual temperatures range between 23 and 31 °C (73 and 88 °F) with
the record high being 36.5 °C (97.7 °F), and record low 16.3 °C
(61.3 °F).From June to September, the south-west monsoon brings in heavy rains as Kochi lies on the
windward side of the Western Ghats. From October to December, Kochi receives
lighter (yet significant) rain from the northeast monsoon, as it lies on the
leeward side. Average annual rainfall is 2,978.0 mm (117.24 in), with
an annual average of 125 rainy days.
HEALTHCARE:
With
a large number of advanced tertiary/quaternary care facilities, Kochi has one
of the best healthcare facilities in India. It is the prime destination for
people seeking advanced healthcare facilities from across Kerala.
In
recent times, it has attracted a large number of patients from all over India,
Middle East, African nations as well as from Europe and United States looking
for relatively inexpensive advanced medical care. Kochi is the only city from Kerala that have carried
out successful heart transplantations.
