During summer, South India is hot and humid, and most travelers stay away from visiting this region. However, unlike what people think, there are some exotic tourist destinations in South India, which are beautiful, cool, and pleasant.

Among them, top coldest places to visit are:

  • Lakkidi
  • Kodaikanal
  • Ooty 
  • Munnar 
  • Yercaud


Lakkidi, Kerala:

The gateway to Wayanad District of Kerala, Lakkidi is located 700 m. above sea level, atop the beautiful Thamarassery Ghat Pass. The quaint hill station receives second highest degree of rainfall in the world.
Best time to visit: October to January.

Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu:

The literal meaning of this hill station located in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu is Gift of the Forest. Meadows, grasslands, waterfalls, valleys and forests make it a complete hill station of sorts. The most well-known and well-populated of all the places mentioned on this list, Kodaikanal offers the amenities of a city up there in the hills. 

Ooty, Tamilnadu:

Ooty, is a hill station in the state of Tamil Nadu. Surrounded by trees, central Ooty Lake is a huge artificial expanse of water with pleasure boats. On the slopes of nearby Elk Hill, the Rose Garden is home to over 2,000 varieties of roses.


Munnar,Kerala:

Munnar is an wonderful hill station, famous for its tea estates, exotic scenery, abundance of flora and fauna and craggy peaks. One of the biggest tea-plantation area of South India, Munnar is one of the most beautiful and popular hill-stations of Kerala. Situated on the banks of three rivers- Madupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru, Munnar is also blessed with natural view-points apart from the tea-plantations.

Yercaud: 

Yercaud is a beautiful hill station in Salem district of Tamil Nadu and also one of the popular Tourist places in Tamilnadu. It is located in the Shevaroy range of hills in the Eastern Ghats at an altitude of 1515 m (4920 ft). Yercaud town got its name from the Yercaud Lake located at its center.
